Component 3 – Integration and trade of regional food markets.

 The objective of this component is to develop value chains and strengthen integration between countries in the West African sub-region by removing barriers to trade. Implementation of the component will facilitate trade between surplus and deficit areas. It will also facilitate the marketing of agricultural inputs and technologies within and beyond national borders. It will consolidate the achievements of the ECOWAS regional food reserve. The component will also support the development of ECOWAS’s strategic regional value chains. Component coordinated by ECOWAS.

• Sub-component 3.1: Facilitate trade through the main corridors and consolidate the food reserve system.

Under the leadership and coordination of ECOWAS and UEMOA, this sub-component aims to strengthen the resilience of food systems and accelerate regional trade in a healthy trading environment.

• Sub-component 3.2: Support for the development of strategic and regional value chains.

Under this sub-component, the programme will support the development of value chains, focusing on the upstream and downstream segments of the value chains targeted by the PRSF in order to increase the availability of products in quantity and meeting standards, and to create added value for sustainable food and nutritional security. This will have tangible positive impacts on regional food security.
